Dia da Independência
Glen's sum up of Brazil's Independence Day & Michelle's photos of how we spent the holiday
Following political upheaval in Portugal in 1820, King João VI returned to Portugal from Brazil in 1821, leaving Prince Pedro as regent in Rio de Janeiro. Shortly thereafter, ministers in Lisbon demanded the return of Brazil to a colony under Portuguese rule. In response, Prince Pedro declared Brazil independent on September 7, 1822.
Since it was a rainy day we stayed indoors: we went to the mall to see a movie:
Inside the Iguatemi mall
Artsy shot #1
Cloudy skies, but no rain yet
Lunch at Z Deli - they have some delicious hamburgers and sandwiches
Here's the rain...
Artsy #2
Happy Independence Day, Brazil!
Cheers,
M&G

Thanks for the history lesson, very interesting. What movie did you see? Does it usually rain that hard?
ReplyDeleteHow could I forget to mention the film we saw?! It was The Man from UNCLE, we liked it! São Paulo gets light and heavy rains, that day was a thunderstorm, like we get back home. The rainy season is over though, so it was pretty unusual
